USB Type-C is a reversible-plug connector designed to support USB 3.1 with a top speed of 10Gbps. It is a 24 pin double sided connector similar in size to a micro-USB type B connector with a high power output of up to 100W (20vdc @ 5A). The connector provides four power/ground pairs, two differential pairs for USB 2.0 data bus (though only one pair is implemented in a Type-C cable), four pairs for high-speed data bus, two "sideband use" pins, and two configuration pins for cable orientation detection, a dedicated biphase mark code (BMC) configuration data channel, and VCONN +5 V power for active cables. USB Type-C also allows for bi-directional power charging input/output which significantly cuts down the amount of connectors / cables currently needed to make devices work. Type-C USB is backward-compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectors.
